Welcome to xenfocus! Can you elaborate on a "javascript background image"? Are you referring to a <canvas> tag?
By default, the Aperture theme has an option to input a URL for a background-image. You'd need to make adjustments to the HTML (and potentially the CSS too) if you needed to use something other than a normal image.
