Introduction

"Pro themes" from XenFocus are simply bundles which contain both the light and dark versions of the same theme. These are distributed as a Parent/Child combination and must be installed using specific steps.

First, you must know what colour scheme is the Parent and what one is the Child. As a general rule (with xenfocus themes), light themes are always the Parent (and are zip files), while dark themes are always the Child (and are xml files).

How to install Pro styles

1. Download the style from the Client Area.

2. Unzip the file on your computer, and you should see:
  • xenfocus-readme.html
  • style-*.zip
  • style-*-dark.xml
Screen Shot 2020-10-06 at 6.11.43 pm.png

3. Log into your admin cpanel, select the Appearance > Styles link and then press the Import button at the top right.

Screen Shot 2020-05-29 at 5.35.57 pm.png

4. Import the Parent style (the .zip file) and make sure (No parent) is selected in the drop down menu. This will create a Parent theme as well as upload all of the theme assets (background images, etc).

Screen Shot 2020-10-06 at 6.13.08 pm.png

5. Once the style has been imported, we want to create a Child style. This will allow us to easily modify and upgrade the style in the future. To do so, click the Add style button at the top. Add your own Title - the name of your site followed by either (light) or (dark) depending on the colour scheme is generally a good idea. Change the Parent Style option to your newly installed xenfocus theme (from Step 4). Press Save. This will create a child theme.

Screen Shot 2020-05-29 at 5.44.09 pm.png

6. Now that your Child theme has been created, visit the Styles page and disable the Parent style by clicking the toggle icon. Disabling the style simply removes it from the Style Picker at the bottom of your site and prevents your members from selecting it. This is intentional. The Parent style won't actually be used by your members on your site, but it's important to have a Parent style since it makes updates much easier.

Screen Shot 2020-05-29 at 5.45.46 pm.png

7. Next, click the Import button again and import the Child style from your computer (the dark xml file). This time, open the "Child of style" menu and select your child theme which you created in Step 5.

Screen Shot 2020-05-29 at 5.47.04 pm.png

8. Once the style has finished importing, click the toggle icon next to it's name to hide it (like we did with the parent style). Next, click the Add Style button at the top right again. We're now creating a child version of your dark theme, so fill out the details similar to the screenshot below (make sure you select your dark theme in the "Parent style" setting. Press Save.

Screen Shot 2020-05-29 at 5.49.40 pm.png

Once you're returned to your main styles page, you'll see a hierarchy of 4 themes, with each one progressively more indented than the other.

Screen Shot 2020-05-29 at 5.52.27 pm.png

The top theme is the Parent theme and should never be edited. Don't edit it's code, don't edit it's style properties - nothing!

The second theme is a clone of your Parent theme. This is the theme which you should edit if required (eg. changing the logo, changing settings, etc).

The third and fourth themes will inherit all of the changes from the second theme. If you edit your logo in the second theme, the logo will automatically be added to all themes below it. This is helpful since you only need to edit your settings once, and both colour schemes will be updated.

The only thing remaining is to enable the dark/light toggle, which allows your members to easily switch between the two colour schemes! :)

How to upgrade Pro styles

1. Download the style from the Client Area.

2. Unzip the file on your computer, and you should see:
  • xenfocus-readme.html
  • style-*.zip
  • style-*-dark.xml
Screen Shot 2020-10-06 at 6.11.43 pm.png

3. Find out what your Parent style is (refer to the list at the top of this post).

4.a. Note: If you originally installed your theme during 2.0 or 2.1 and therefore used the .xml file, you may want to upgrade using the .xml instead of the .zip file. To do this, simply unzip the .zip file on your computer and you'll have access to the .xml file. You can then import it instead of the .zip file in the next step.

4.b. Log into your admin cpanel, click Appearance > Styles and then the Import button at the top right. Browse to the .zip file (the Parent theme). Choose the Overwrite style option and select your Parent style from the list. The Parent style is the one at the top of your hierarchy (the one which is hidden to all members and has not been edited). Replacing that theme will mean the updated changes are inherited by your child themes.

5. Done!

I still see forum list as right aligned. Might be a cache thing.

Also, a lot of links to https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/ Primarily in the title of the forum you're looking at ...I just don't get it?
Ok, so problem is solved. If anybody else see this super strange issue, this is how I solved it:

I found where Google Chrome Browser is linked, it's the phrase: you_are_using_out_of_date_browser_upgrade
I edited that one. Saved. Then I chosed to restore it back again to the original.

Tada. All issues I had are now gone. Forum list correctly aligned, new thread button is to the right again and finally no link to Google Chrome Browser.

Have i missed something here? You mention cpanel in the instructions? You also mention that you can import from an archive, yet that option isn't available, all I see in style import is XML.. Am I missing something here?

Hello,

Are you using xenforo 2.1? The archive option was only introduced in 2.2.x

Followed everything exactly and nothing seems to be working. I'm new at this so not sure of the next step.
Hello,

Welcome to xenfocus!

An installation service is available for $15 if you'd like me to install the theme for you. If you'd prefer to try yourself, let me know what steps you're stuck at and I'll do my best to help :)

Hi!
If I upgrade illuminate do I have to reinstall the dark xmpl as well?

Or all I have to do is overwrite the zip?
If so why is the dark xml is in the downloaded folder?

When upgrading, you only usually need to upgrade the parent theme. If you’ve modified the code of the dark theme (which usually isn’t suggested), then importing the xml may be necessary.

Regardless, the dark xml is included in the folder so new customers can install it. I imagine customers would be a little confused if they purchased the Pro theme but only received the light version :)

I've opted for the installation but it doesn't appear as it does here, on your screenshots. But when I add 2 or 3 it doesn't give a dark theme. (Where your examples are 5 and 6)

I've read everything and I can't see to figure it out.
I think that the second theme wasn't added (we opted for install service so we didn't install ourselves) or the child theme of the illumanati theme to generate the dark theme.

Can this be checked out please?

Welcome to xenfocus @321Chat

It doesn't seem as though I installed the theme for you - did you end up attempting this yourself?

If you can send me a PM with a username/password which I can use to access your Admin Cpanel, I'll be happy to install and configure your themes for you :)

I am not a programmer, but I have been working in the web for almost 20 years, using forums and CMS and managing websites.

So I can say out loud, that XenForo's style updates are a huge disappointment.

I literally HATE the update function. Also the guide to follow the update is a disaster.

If you installed the themes before xenforo 2.0 do this..., if after 2.1 do this..., if you have only the light theme do this..., if you have the dark theme, do this..., if you have the pro theme..., do this, but then it depends what is the parent theme... but then inside you have a zip file, but you use the xml file, then you use the zip file if from version 2.0.......

AND STOP, please. STOP, STOP, STOP. it's a ridiculous system.

Waiting for xenforo to evolve from the stone age to the present day, I'm going to waste another 10 hours, reinstalling everything from scratch, and to rewrite my html code, unfortunately lost after this update.

THANK YOU

This anger is not addressed to XenFocus but to the XenForo software.

I hate it too. In my forum, everything I customized manually was also gone after the update. I had to do everything from scratch again. Also I find it very confusing and complicated for XenForo beginners to do a style update without trouble..

The fault is with XenForo and not XenFocus. I love the XenFocus styles :)(y)

Hello! Dimension Pro. The template toggle button does not work. I'll attach screenshots of the settings below. Please help me figure it out.

Hi @Adminisland

Your last 2 screenshots are incorrect.

The ID's need to be inverted. So in your light theme (with ID 12), the setting needs to be 14. In your dark theme (with ID 14), the setting needs to be 12.

They basically need to reference each other. At the moment, when you click on the toggle icon, you're switching from ID 12 to ID 12, which does nothing. :)

Hi @Ehren !

I bought Dimension Pro had it installed properly then while making changes screwed everything up!! I have all my updated style changes etc in dark but the light theme doesn't add the changes! Not sure what I did wrong! I kept the original untouched versions separate and unchanged..... Is there any coaching available?? LOL! here's my screwed up tree!!!

Hello,

The order/hierarchy seems a little off. It should be:

Dimension Light
-- PokerChipper
---- Dimension Dark
------PokerChipper Dark

Using that order, you only need to edit the "PokerChipper" theme, and your dark version should automatically inherit most changes :)

I hope that helps!
